Week 7: Readings and my own response

The Harris and Faigley articles for this week articulate the process and value of evaluation.  Harris emphasis on evaluation as a process, has taught me an important lesson:  Effective criticism on a piece of writing, depends heavily on the context and desire of the writer themself.  Using our own class as an example.  I believe it is important to understand the stage that a draft is in prior to responding.  Our second rough draft of a research paper may not contain the polished transitions and flawless grammar/punctuation of a final copy.  That being said, the writer may not want feedback on their nonexistent transitions and their poor comma skills.  The Faigley article will remind me to be aware of who the writer is that i am responding to, and to be careful of applying my own subjective values onto their argument.  In my response to my peers' drafts I will be conscious of the criticism they desire, and the context in which they are writing.
