My second possible topic is the relationship between Video games digital interactive media and learning and/or the narrative process. At the level of Conjecture I formed a few questions pertaining to my abstract topic, "Do narratives exist in video games?", or "Are video games pedagogical tools?". I feel these questions lead to affirmative or negative responses yes/no, but in this context allow for research to illuminate either response in a way that fits the assignment and audience I am currently addressing. Using those questions as a foundation, I moved to questions of definition, "Do video games create new narrative structures or merely communicate old narrative forms through a new medium?", or "Is there a connection between video games and learning?" Like my other research topic, questions of definition seem to fit the mold of our assignment. I could potentially research any connections between video games and learning or video game narratives and preexisting narrative forms. I then moved to questions of quality, "Are video games effective pedagogical tools?" "Should video games be used as pedagogical tools for the future?" "Do video game narratives expand the possibilities of narrative and storytelling?". The question of using video games as effective pedagogical tools and their future application is intriguing. I am considering researching their use which would allow me to argue as to their value or lack thereof in an increasingly digital age. The stasis of procedure led me to questions that seem too complex for the assignment we are completing. My examples were "How can we use video games as pedagogical tools of the future?" "what can we do to implement interactive digital media in our systems of education?
As I stated in my prior post, this exercise illuminated the research, length, and arrangement possibilities of each stasis of questioning and gave me a better idea of what question I would like to respond to in my research paper. This work was invaluable to my prewriting process.
